Taxicab Licenses & Inspections

City of South Bend Taxi Cab Licensing & Inspections are available Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. & 4:00 p.m. at the following location:

Driver Requirements:

Criminal History Reports from each City you have lived in for the past 20 years.
Driving Records from each State you have lived in for the past 10 years.
Must possess a Public Passenger Chauffeur's License or CDL.
Driver's license can only be from Indiana or Michigan, depending where you live, and address on license and application must match.
Certificate from a licensed physician certifying that, in the physician's opinion, you are not suffering from any disease of infirmity which may make you an unsafe or unsatisfactory driver.
Test results from a drug test.
Application Fee of $5.00 and $15.25 upon approval.

Note: If you have had a Felony in the past 20 years, or a Misdemeanor in the past 10 years, you will automatically be denied.
This is a yearly license that runs from October 1 through September 30.

The building location must be in a commercially zoned area. Please contact the Building Department at 574.235.9554 for zoning information.
Company must own or control at least 6 vehicles and have them available for calls 24 hours a day.
Vehicle Inspection costs are $55.00 per vehicle.
A Company Annual Business License of $100.00.
